Summer Events

Fredericksburg's summer is a time of excitement, with a multitude of special events that enhance the season.

The Summer Art Show at Fredericksburg Art Guild will take place from June 6 to September 1, 2024, on Sundays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

The 4th of July in Fredericksburg is a big deal. Our town hosts a 200+ unit parade on Main Street. There's a free patriotic program immediately following the parade at Marktplatz.

The Gillespie County Fair will take place from August 22 to 25, 2024! Texas's oldest continuous county fair kicks off with the County Fair Parade at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 23, on Main Street.

Find a cool pool

It’s no secret that Texas can heat up in the summer, so luckily there are many pools where you can cool down in Fredericksburg.

Open to the public for a small fee, the Tony Knopp Pool is located in downtown Fredericksburg and the Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park Pool is at Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park (a great stop on its own). The Town Pool Splash Pad is free and great for younger children and non-swimmers.

Enjoy the great outdoors

Fredericksburg is home to several free outdoor parks and activities. Be sure to explore your options for outdoor activities in Fredericksburg. Some of these include hiking in Cross Mountain Park, which is 1,951 feet high and includes walking trails, a butterfly garden, and picnic areas. 

Visit the nation's largest working wildflower farm, Wildseed Farms. During the early summer, you’ll see everything from red poppies to Texas bluebonnets and everything in between. They also have a café and a winery.

Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park offers fishing opportunities and fishing at other Texas Hill Country state parks and at area lakes.

May through October, there’s a truly unique experience at Old Tunnel State Park, the smallest state park in Texas. It is home to some three million bats living in an old railroad tunnel in the summertime. You can view them emerging from the tunnel on select nights by purchasing a ticket online in advance.

A sweet, creamy, and cool treat is simply the best at the end of a summer day, and Fredericksburg ice cream shops have excellent selections. 

Clear River Ice Cream and Bakery in Fredericksburg makes homemade ice cream with over 75 flavors. OroBianco Italian Creamery operates the first and only water buffalo dairy and creamery in Texas, and there’s a small-batch Italian ice shop, Piccolina, you won’t want to miss.

During the spring, check out the largest working wildflower farm in the nation - Wildseed Farms. Mid-May through mid-August, stop and taste some of the sweetest and juiciest peaches in Texas. In the fall, enjoy time outside by experiencing Fredericksburg by horseback or taking a haunted tour of Fredericksburg.
