For lunch, enjoy a picnic at one of the shaded picnic tables at the Visitor Information Center or pick up a sandwich and head to your lodging accommodations for a light lunch.
Be sure to stop at the Pioneer Museum to get an introduction to the history and heritage of Fredericksburg. Learn about why the Germans came to Texas, the peace treaty with the Native Americans and all about historic Sunday Houses.
Insider Tip: Most of the shops along Main Street are open between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily, but remember these are locally owned and operated shops, so hours vary.
Start your day with a stop at The National Museum of the Pacific War, a Smithsonian-Affiliate museum. Dedicated to all those who served in the Pacific War, the museum has undergone expansion and renovation to make it the world's premier museum about World War II's Pacific Theater.
Insider tip: The museum is open for entry Wednesday through Monday, but the grounds are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Reservations are highly recommended as limited walk-up tickets are available. Special VIP tickets allow for entry over the course of two days.
Take time to sip on award-winning Texas wines at one of the area's more than 50 vineyards and tasting rooms. Most offer outdoor seating to enjoy great weather and light bites that pair perfectly. And for those that don't like wine, Fredericksburg has some great breweries and distilleries.

Wake up early for a sunrise hike up to Enchanted Rock State Natural Area. Take in 360-degree views and cooler temperatures as the sun rises. Be sure to bring plenty of water, especially if you plan on spending most of your day here. Or take a leisurely walk up to historic Cross Mountain, which also includes 360-degree views of the Texas Hill Country and picnic tables, perfect for enjoying breakfast.
Insider tip: Reservations to Enchanted Rock can be made up to 30 days in advance. Reservations are highly encouraged and are required for park entry on weekends and holidays. Spring is the busiest time for the park. Pets are not allowed on the Summit Trail. The park closes due to rain and when capacity is reached.
If you’re up for a nighttime adventure, the park is open for day visitors until 10 p.m. – add stargazing to your itinerary. Enchanted Rock is an International Dark Sky Community and is one of the best places for stargazing in Texas! Don’t forget your flashlights for your journey back to the car.
