info for lodging owners
If you recently purchased a short-term rental property or have owned a bed and breakfast for many years, below you will find information to make sure you are following all laws and ordinances to set your business up for the most success.
Both the City of Fredericksburg and Gillespie County collect a lodging occupancy tax of 7%. This tax is in addition to the 6% state occupancy tax.
However, the location of your property determines which entity (city or county) you should remit to. You will not remit to both, and in total your occupancy tax will be 13 percent (6% state + 7% city or county). Properties located in the Fredericksburg city limits or in its Extra-Territorial Jurisdiction (ETJ) area should remit to the city, while all properties outside of the aforementioned areas should remit to the county.
