Tired of sitting in front of a screen? Looking for some unique date ideas for you and your special someone? Ditch your go-to date spot and spend time exploring all Fredericksburg has to offer in the great outdoors.

Fredericksburg has a wide variety of open spaces that are perfect for any outdoor date. Here are a few ideas that are simple, inexpensive, and are suitable for spending time together.

Enchanted Rock Night SkiesHike Enchanted Rock

Explore Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, a pink granite rock located just 18 miles from downtown Fredericksburg. The rock features stunning views of the Texas Hill Country and is the perfect setting for a romantic walk or a special proposal.

The park offers several trail options for all abilities. The park opens at 6:30 a.m. and closes at 10 p.m. Note that most trails close at sunset and pets are not allowed on the Summit Trail.

The park utilizes the Texas Parks and Wildlife Reservation System, which provides entry to the park. Reservations can be made up to 30 days in advance and spots fill up when the weather is nice. The park will also close when capacity is reached.

The park is open seven days a week and the cost to enter is $8.

Enjoy nature at Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park

Ten-plus acres of natural landscape highlight the park. The park features a one-mile walking trail along Live Oak Creek.

Learn about the many birds and butterflies at a special bird feeding and viewing area along the Vista Loop Trail.

The park also includes five outdoor pavilions, perfect for a picnic; softball and baseball fields; basketball, tennis, and pickleball courts for active couples; and fishing.

Take a short hike to the top of Cross Mountain to experience views from 1,951 feet. In 1847, early settlers of Fredericksburg found a timber cross on the historic hilltop, that was previously used as a lookout point by Native Americans. In 1946, the current and permanent lighted cross was raised. The park also includes spots for a romantic picnic lunch and a short walk around a butterfly garden, lined with plants native to Texas.

Sip a glass of Texas wine or try a local craft brew

Taste wines from one of over 50 wineries in the epicenter of Texas Wine Country or enjoy a cold beer from two of Fredericksburg’s breweries. Spend time outside on the patios and porches drinking the Texas Hill Country’s best wines while enjoying small bites. Schedule a tasting or tour here  With Fredericksburg’s German history, wine is not the only beverage to be enjoyed while visiting Fredericksburg. Hop on over to one of our six delicious breweries that offer a beer for every taste as well as several sharable and delicious eats.
