Peach season is now underway in the Texas Hill Country! Roadside markets and orchards around Fredericksburg and Stonewall are opening up with a new crop of delicious Gillespie County peaches.
The popularity of the peach in the area prompted Fodor's Travel to name Fredericksburg one of 10 small towns that are totally obsessed with fruit. Many of the peach growers also have fresh blackberries and other produce available, while area restaurants incorporate the local offerings in to seasonal dishes and recipes - making the Texas Hill Country a unique culinary destination worthy of a visit for any foodie.
Gillespie County's orchards have produced some of the nation's top peaches for generations with many operations being held in the same family for over 70 years. That tradition also gives rise at many roadside markets to tasty homemade peach cobbler, peach ice cream and plenty of peach jams, jellies and spreads to satisfy your sweet tooth.
Each mid-May through August, find fresh Texas Hill Country peaches at orchards and roadside markets clustered along Highway 290 between Fredericksburg and Stonewall, and along Highway 87, south of Main Street in Fredericksburg.
