Best Kept Secret, A Midweek Getaway In Fredericksburg

While it may be best known as a weekend getaway, Fredericksburg is a perfect destination for a midweek vacation.

With legendary hospitality, Fredericksburg provides visitors with a wide-array of activities and experiences Sunday through Thursday with a little less of the weekends hustle and bustle.

Here are several must-dos for any midweek trip to the Texas Hill Country.

Visit Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, rated among the best campsites in the state yearly, the large granite outcropping is excellent for visitors who want to explore nature with park camping, picnicking, nearly nine miles of hiking trails, rock climbing and wildlife.

Tour the grounds of the "Texas White House" at the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park, which provides visitors a look at the ranch that former President Johnson loved so much. Play a round at Lady Bird Johnson Golf Course, one of Texas’ top municipal courses with picturesque Hill Country views and located just a few from downtown Fredericksburg.

With nearly 100 wineries, vineyards and tasting rooms in the Fredericksburg area, you can enjoy a self-guided trip down Wine Road 290 on your own or opt for a wine tour with any of our local wine tour companies.

Shop Fredericksburg’s 150 unique shops and boutiques, which are open all week long. Whether you are looking for antiques, Christmas decor or the perfect new outfit, you'll find it all.

Enjoy Fredericksburg's diverse culinary scene. From German food to burgers to fine dining, Fredericksburg has something for everyone’s taste.

One of the most unique attractions in the area, the nightly Bat Emergence at Old Tunnel State Park, features up to 3 million Mexican free-tailed bats emerging from an abandoned railroad tunnel during the months of May through October.

Step back in time to learn about Fredericksburg’s German heritage at the Pioneer Museum. The 3.5 acre site gives a glimpse into the lives of the early German settlers in the frontier town of Fredericksburg from the 1840s to the 1920s. Visit the National Museum of Pacific War, a Smithsonian-affiliated museum dedicated to telling the story of the Pacific Theater during World War II. With interactive exhibits and endless galleries and stunning grounds, the museum is a learning experience for all generations.
