Day one

Upon arriving in Fredericksburg, be sure to stop at the Visitor Information Center for a friendly welcome, maps, directions, information on where to eat and what to do and more. Don't miss the 10-minute welcome video highlighting Fredericksburg's history and attractions. The Visitor Information Center also has public restrooms, free WiFi and free parking. 

For lunch, enjoy a picnic at one of the shaded picnic tables at the Visitor Information Center or pick up a sandwich and head to your lodging accommodations for a light lunch. 

Be sure to stop at the Pioneer Museum to get an introduction to the history and heritage of Fredericksburg. Learn about why the Germans came to Texas, the peace treaty with the Native Americans and all about historic Sunday Houses. 

Enjoy some dinner at one of our restaurants, whether you are looking for something casual with patio seating or fine dining. After dinner, take a stroll down Main Street to do some window shopping.

Insider Tip: Most of the shops along Main Street are open between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily, but remember these are locally owned and operated shops, so hours vary.

Day two

Start your day with a stop at the National Museum of the Pacific War, a Smithsonian-Affiliate museum. Dedicated to all those who served in the Pacific War, the museum has undergone expansion and renovation to make it the world's premier museum about World War II's Pacific Theater.  

Insider tip: The museum is open for entry Wednesday through Monday, but the grounds are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Reservations are highly recommended as limited walk-up tickets are available. 

For an easy lunch, head to one of the spots located on Main Street, right near the museum. 

For the afternoon, head out U.S. Highway 290 to Wildseed Farms, the largest working wildflower farm in the United States. While flowers may only bloom during certain times of the year, any day of the year you can find merchandise, gardening supplies, wildflower seeds, wine and more. 

If you're into wine, be sure to stop at one of the area's more than 50 wineries located in Fredericksburg and Gillespie County. Most tasting rooms are open daily and visiting midweek offers great perks.

Day Three

Wake up early for a sunrise hike up to Enchanted Rock State Natural Area. Take in 360-degree views and cooler temperatures as the sun rises. Be sure to bring plenty of water, especially if you plan on spending most of your day hereOr take a leisurely walk up to historic Cross Mountain, which also includes 360-degree views of the Texas Hill Country and picnic tables, perfect for enjoying breakfast. 

Insider tip: Reservations to Enchanted Rock can be made up to 30 days in advance. Reservations are highly encouraged and are required for park entry on weekends and holidays. Spring is the busiest time for the park. Pets are not allowed on the Summit Trail. The park closes due to rain and when capacity is reached. 

If you’re up for a nighttime adventure, the park is open for day visitors until 10 p.m. – add stargazing to your itinerary. Enchanted Rock is an International Dark Sky Community and is one of the best places for stargazing in Texas! Don’t forget your flashlights for your journey back to the car. 

After a long day outside enjoying the beauty of the Texas Hill Country, tonight is the perfect time for a hearty German meal. Several restaurants in Fredericksburg offer authentic German fare and German beers.

Day four

Today it is time to explore the life and times of Texas president Lyndon B. Johnson, who served as the 36th president of the United States. Drive around the LBJ Ranch and the Texas White House at the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park. Learn about First Lady Lady Bird Johnson's roadside beautification projects.

Before leaving, be sure to check out the Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm at the state park where interpreters portray what life was like in the early 1900s. 

Insider tip: Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site hosts several special events and living history events throughout the year. 

Head back to Main Street for some time to explore more than 150 locally-owned shops, boutiques, art galleries and more

Day Five

You have been moving full-steam ahead since your arrival, so today is all about relaxation. 

Start by trying one of our day spas. From Swedish massages to facials to reflexology and more, you are sure to feel relaxed and rejuvenated. 

Spas not your style? Practice your swing at the 18-hole Lady Bird Johnson Golf Course. Catch lunch at the course or drive down the street to the Airport Diner and watch plans take off and land at the Gillespie County Airport. 

Take time to sip on award-winning Texas wines at one of the area's more than 50 vineyards and tasting rooms. Most offer outdoor seating to enjoy great weather and light bites that pair perfectly. 


Day Six

Today you will spend the day exploring the backroads in Gillespie County. The Texas Hill Country is known as a great place to bicycle with county roads around Fredericksburg, Harper, Doss, Willow City and Stonewall. 

Insider tip: Stay off U.S. Highway 290 and U.S. 87 when riding your bicycle as the shoulders are narrow and traffic can be heavy. 

Don't like to bicycle? No worries! Explore the Texas Hill Country by car. The Gillespie County Country Schools Driving Trail provides four routes that showcase 12 different historic schools built in the late 1800s and early 1900s. 

End your time in Fredericksburg with some two-stepping at the legendary Luckenbach Texas. The historic dance hall holds concerts most Friday and Saturday nights as well as picker circles daily under the oak trees.

Depending on the season of your visit, your afternoon plans are endless. During the spring, check out the largest working wildflower farm in the nation - Wildseed Farms. Mid-May through mid-August, stop and taste some of the sweetest and juiciest peaches in Texas.
