Overview

Join the National Museum of the Pacific War as we celebrate 2026 National Ice Cream Day! During WW2, ice cream served (pun intended) as a morale booster and a lifesaver! Ice cream barges made 500 gallons of ice cream a day, bringing smiles and a little taste of home to servicemen across the Pacific. The USS Kidd famously flew a pirate flag and “ransomed” back downed airmen with this sweet treat. Not to mention the innovative pilots who flew high-altitude “reconnaissance” missions to make their own ice cream!

Stop by the Memorial Courtyard on July 29th between 12 and 2 PM for a scoop (or two) as we honor the Greatest Generation with the greatest dessert!
