Tour this two-story stone structure that served as the fourth jail for Gillespie County, organized in 1848. It was constructed by the firm of C. F. Priess and Bro. in 1885. The ground floor housed a holding area and living quarters for the jailer. The second floor had two steel-clad cells located against the east wall and maximum security cells in the center and at the back. The building was used as a county jail facility until 1939. Recorded Texas Historic Landmark - 1980. Credit card payments can be accepted online or at the Pioneer Museum or the Vereins Kirche. Cash payments only accepted at the jail.

Pioneer Museum is partnering with the Frontier History Company Foundation to bring living history to the museum and the Historic Gillespie County Jail on the first Saturday of every month. Living history interpreters will be on the museum grounds and at the jail. Hands-on educational activity and scavenger hunt for all ages. Day pass includes Pioneer Museum, the Vereins Kirche Museum, and the jail. Shop special deals in the Museum Store.

The 66th Gillespie County Historic Home Tour and Market will showcase eight homes in Gillespie County as well as a Holiday Market. All properties are self-guided with docents available to answer any questions. 
Tour tickets include admission to the Holiday Market featuring a variety of artisanal vendors. 
Home Tour tickets start at $40 and will go on sale September 1.
