Overview

Certainly one of the most beautiful buildings in Fredericksburg is occupied by the Pioneer Memorial Library. This historic structure began life as the second courthouse for Gillespie County and was designed by famed architect Alfred Giles. The stone for the project was quarried just northeast of town. It was constructed in 1881/1882 and served as the courthouse until 1939. In 1966-77 the building was renovated with underwriting from Mr. and Mrs. Eugene McDermott and was dedicated as the library in 1967. Today, the library offers great resources in print and online as well as a large children's section

Pioneer Memorial Library Sidewalk Book Sale

Browse for a new book at the Pioneer Memorial Library's monthly Sidewalk Book Sale! Every first Saturday (from March-December) from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. you can find an ever-changing assortment of books, from bestsellers and nonfiction to kids books and cookbooks. Prices range from 50 cents to $3. Proceeds support Library programs. Cash or check only, please. Hosted by the Friends of the Pioneer Memorial Library volunteer organization.

Hill Country Author Event

The Pioneer Memorial Library will be hosting the first annual Hill Country Author Event for local authors in the Texas Hill Country area. This event will be held on Saturday, September 12th from 10:00am-1:00pm. There will be tables for authors to meet-and-greet readers and sign books. Children's book authors will be given an opportunity to have a small reading of their book to children.
