Overview
Dot's Bakery was inspired by the owner, Frances Money's, childhood spent in the kitchen at the side of her grandmother, "Hot Dot" Colvin, learning how to bake in Minden, LA. Many of Hot Dot's handwritten recipes are incorporated into the menu and the script for the logo was replicated from her handwritten recipe cards. After graduating from LSU in Baton Rouge, LA, Frances pursued her lifelong desire of attending culinary school. She trained at the Le Cordon Bleu Patisserie and Baking Program, and apprenticed at several well-known restaurants in Austin, TX, including Fino Restaurant, where one of her desserts was featured on the cover of Bon Appetite. She embarked on her career as a classically trained pastry chef at Frosted Art Bakery in Dallas, TX, where she designed and baked wedding and specialty cakes. While in Dallas, TX, she met her husband, Carl Money, owner of Pontotoc Vineyard, and they promptly moved to London, England, to further his legal career. In London, Frances served as the pastry chef and bakery manager at Primrose Bakery and developed many of the recipes for the Primrose Bakery cookbooks. After several years living abroad and the birth of their first child, Harper Money, the family returned to Texas and opened Pontotoc Vineyard Weingarten in Fredericksburg, TX, and Pontotoc Vineyard Picnic Table in Hye, TX. Over the past twelve years and the addition of three more children, Ella, Finn, and Welles Money, Frances developed her beloved picnic baskets with homemade pimento cheese, brownies, cookies, and spiced pecans as well as her world-famous Sangria de Tempranillo. Dot's Bakery is a tribute Hot Dot and the realization of Frances' childhood dream of opening a family bakery.
