The annual Fredericksburg holiday lighting ceremony will look a little different in 2020.
Debuting on Thursday, Nov. 12 and running through Wednesday, Jan. 6, 55 Nights of Fredericksburg Lights will take place each evening on Marktplatz in the heart of historic Fredericksburg.
Visitors can experience the transformation of the town into a holiday wonderland during an approximately 10-minute audio program, including traditional holiday music and a brief history of the iconic 26-foot German Christmas Pyramid and Community Christmas Tree. The audio program will conclude with a grand finale countdown to the illumination of all of Marktplatz.
Traditionally, Fredericksburg hosts a Lighting Ceremony for the pyramid and tree on the Friday after Thanksgiving each year. In 2020 that event will be replaced by this daily program, which encourages social distancing and gives visitors something to see each and every day of the holiday season.
Visitors and locals can witness the countdown each evening, while also enjoying the other activities in and around Fredericksburg’s historic Main Street, including shopping at boutique shops and art galleries, dining on creative culinary offerings, tasting award-winning wine along the town’s Urban Wine Trail, and even ice skating on Marktplatz at Eisbahn.
Be sure to bring your cameras - it's a perfect place for some great family photo opportunities, or even to snap a photo for those last-minute Christmas cards!
