Fredericksburg's history runs deep, and there are several excellent ways to connect with it over the long weekend.

Fort Martin Scott is one of the first frontier Army forts in Texas, established in 1848 as a pre-Civil War military outpost. The site offers a self-guided walking experience through a layered history that includes U.S. Army occupation, Texas Rangers, and a brief Confederate presence during the Civil War. A nature trail winds along Barons Creek for about half a mile, with wildlife, wildflowers, and a bird blind built by the Fredericksburg Rotary Club along the way.

Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm at Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site brings early 20th-century German-Texan farm life to life with living history demonstrations, period-accurate structures, and knowledgeable staff who make history accessible for all ages.

Explore the Outdoors

No trip to the Texas Hill Country is complete without a visit to Enchanted Rock State Natural Area. The iconic pink granite dome rising out of the Hill Country landscape is one of the most recognizable natural landmarks in Texas. Explore nearly 11 miles of hiking trails ranging from accessible summit hikes to longer backcountry routes, with sweeping views at every turn.

Enchanted Rock is a popular destination, especially on holiday weekends. Day-use passes are required and sell out in advance, so plan ahead and secure your entry before your trip.

For something a little more leisurely, Wildseed Farms offers a beautiful way to spend a morning or afternoon. The nation's largest working wildflower farm, Wildseed Farms spans over 200 acres of wildflower fields at its Hill Country headquarters just outside of Fredericksburg. Come late May, the fields fill with summer bloomers like Cosmos, Sunflowers, and Zinnias.
