The Texas Hill Country is a beautiful place to explore in the springtime. Viewing wildflowers, including the Texas Bluebonnet, make a trip to Fredericksburg a must-do for any spring getaway. Here are a few places where you can get up close and personal with wildflowers in Fredericksburg:
The nation’s largest working wildflower farm, Wildseed Farms, is located just a few miles from downtown Fredericksburg. At Wildseed Farms, visitors can take photos of fields of Texas bluebonnets, poppies and other seasonal wildflowers. Wildseed Farms is also home to the Brewbonnet Biergarten, where you can grab a cold beer or glass of wine from the farm's namesake winery, Wildseed Farm Vineyards, and a light lunch; and the Market Center, where you can shop for the perfect souvenir, including packets of seeds to grow your own wildflowers.
Gillespie County Country Schools Driving Trail
Explore the Gillespie County Country Schools Driving Trail. Whether you opt to explore by car or on a bike, soak up the Texas Hill Country springtime scenery with a drive to each of the historic rural country schools along the Gillespie County Country Schools Driving Trail. The trail features 17 historic schools and four historic churches along the beautiful winding roads of Gillespie County and plenty of opportunities to view wildflowers. Open houses are scheduled throughout the year.
Lyndon B. Johnson State and National Historical Parks
See the wildflowers the way LBJ did with a springtime visit to the ranch that he loved so much at the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park. After you’ve taken in the scenery at the ranch, head across the Pedernales River to visit the Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm at the Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site, where you can view more wildflowers.
