Fredericksburg 175th Anniversary Year will come to a close in early May. Over the past year, the town has honored and celebrated its founding, which took place on May 8, 1846. The Grand Finale Weekend, slated for May 5-8, will feature a multitude of events highlighting the town's unique German heritage.

Several special events are planned for the weekend: 

Friday, May 6

  • The Gillespie County Fair Grounds will host the Lasting Friendship ceremony. The event begins at 6 p.m. and will feature several special guests, including descendants of John O. Meusebach, the founder of Fredericksburg. The evening also includes a meal, live music and more. 
     
  • Celebrate the conclusion of the anniversary year by viewing fireworks at Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park. The show begins at 9:30 p.m. and there is no cost to attend.

Saturday, May 7

  • Set up your lawn chair and enjoy a Main Street parade. The parade will highlight the 12 monthly themes that all honor Fredericksburg's rich history. The parade begins at 10 a.m.
     
  • Head to Pioneer Museum and experience live history demonstrations, hands-on activities, and more to celebrate Founder's Day. Admission is free and food will be available for purchase. 
     
  • The National Museum of the Pacific War will host a rare display of the Meusebach-Comanche Treaty from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. The treaty was signed in May 1847 and is considered the longest-standing treaty between Native Americans and settlers. 
     
  • Marktplatz will host several special events throughout the day including Indian Market Day Vendors, traditional Comanche Dancers, and more. 
     
  • Bring your picnic, beverages and lawn chairs to Marktplatz to close out the 175th Anniversary with a toast to one of Fredericksburg's most iconic music venues- Pat's Hall. Live music from 5-11 p.m. in the Advelsverein Halle. No charge for admission. 

Sunday, May 8

  • At 11 a.m. at Marktplatz, there will be a commemoration of the 175th anniversary of the Vereins Kirche, the reading of the peace treaty, and a wreath-laying at the Meusebach bust.
