The change in weather brings the start of the fall season in Fredericksburg, making for the perfect time to visit the Texas Hill Country.

Throughout the season, Fredericksburg hosts several fall festivals and events including Oktoberfest, Texas Mesquite Arts Festival, Knights of Columbus Bestfest and the revamped Fredericksburg Food and Wine Fest. Live music, wine and shopping events and opportunities to spend time in the great outdoors round out the calendar.

Oktoberfest returns to Fredericksburg October 4-6 and celebrates Fredericksburg’s German heritage with food, drink, music, artisans and more. The event kicks off Friday with OkTUBAfest and the tapping of the keg. Saturday, start the morning outside in the cool fall weather at the Kraut Run/Walk or the Haupstrasse Chicken Dance. Later in the day, participate in the stein hoist or polka contest, while sipping on domestic and imported beers and delicious German fare. Sunday, start the morning at the 42 domino tournament or gather the family and dress up for the Family Dirndl and Lederhosen contest. All events are held at Marktplatz in downtown Fredericksburg. The world’s finest mesquite wood artisans will showcase their products October 11-13 at Marktplatz for the Texas Mesquite Arts Festival. Items range from large furniture like beds, dressers and tables, to unique craft items such as ornaments, lamps, pens, vases and more. There is no charge to attend.

Saturday, October 19 marks the return of Knights of Columbus Bestfest. This all-ages events features craft beer, all-you-can-eat sausage, polka and country bands, children’s activities and a prize drawing. See website for more.

A revamped Fredericksburg Food and Wine Fest will be held Friday-Saturday, October 25-26. New this year is an intimate street dinner on Friday evening, featuring a multi-course dinner, paired with a Texas wine or locally-produced cocktail. Saturday morning includes yoga and wine, an off-site brunch and family-friendly activation. The Grand Tasting event begins in the afternoon on Marktplatz and includes local wine, beer and specialty cocktails, music, culinary demonstrations and more. See the full lineup of events.

In addition to great events, visitors to Fredericksburg can experience all that Fredericksburg has to offer including shopping the latest fall fashions along historic Main Street, explore the great outdoors with a hike at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area or Cross Mountain Park, cycling along the Gillespie County Country Schools Trail or on a guided ride or picking pumpkins at a local orchard.

Fredericksburg is Texas Wine Country and many area wineries will be introducing new releases from the annual grape harvest. Take part in Texas Wine Month and during the month of October, experience over 45 wineries, vineyards and tasting rooms in the Texas Hill Country. Enjoy complimentary tastings and special discounts.

Discover Fredericksburg’s rich German history and heritage at the First Saturday Living History Days at Pioneer Museum or explore the grounds of Fort Martin Scott.
