Fredericksburg Live Entertainment Scene Expands

FREDERICKSBURG, Texas --- The love of live entertainment in Fredericksburg can be traced to its German settlers and continues today with live music, theater and varied performances taking place at over 50 venues across Gillespie County routinely.

The live music scene has grown tremendously and continues to develop from venues that have hosted live music for decades to new restaurants, wineries and shops that schedule nightly offerings.

Luckenbach Texas has been a staple of the local music scene for decades.  The 1970s hangout of country’s music original outlaw artists features live picker circles every day of the week, with dances and concerts on the weekends.  They continue to book established and up-and-coming Americana groups, as well as providing open mic time to our local musicians.

Another long-time influence on the local music scene is Hill Top Café, where owner and Grammy nominee Johnny Nicholas plays and brings in amazing musicians to join him on stage at the restaurant on a regular basis.

With the association of the Gatlin Brothers with Rockbox Theater, the format of the shows at that downtown venue has evolved.  Not only are there tribute shows, but also a growing number of artists who are touring through the area and now perform at the theater here.

With the recent acquisition of Fritztown Cinema and The Backyard Amphitheater by EVO Entertainment Group, expect a more active concert schedule at that venue as well.  Bands scheduled include future performances by Dennis Quaid and the Sharks as well as the Marshall Tucker Band to name a few.

Numerous restaurants in the downtown area offer a variety of entertainment throughout the week including Hondo’s on Main, The Auslander, Silver Creek, Navajo Grill, Western Edge Cellars, El Milagro, West End Pizza, Altdorf Biergarten and more.  And Crossroads Saloon and Steakhouse offers an indoor dance floor with some great show bands on Fridays and Saturdays.

Just at the edge of town, the Club at Barons CreekSide offers up an eclectic schedule of blues and jazz music each weekend.  The Officer’s Club at The Hangar Hotel, Lincoln Street Wine Market, 78624 The Bar and the Albert Dance Hall offer live entertainment as well on specific nights of the week.

The Fredericksburg Theater Company (FTC) is an award-winning live theater company, which includes some great theatrical productions to add to the live music and entertainment scene in the Texas Hill Country.

For over 80 years the Fredericksburg Music Club has produced a season of great concerts bringing musicians to Fredericksburg from around Texas, the nation and the world.

And, of course, we cannot forget our great annual festivals and events which book musical groups that range from Zydeco to polka to Cajun to jazz to traditional country-western.

The Fredericksburg Convention and Visitor Bureau assembles a weekly schedule of live music and entertainment in Fredericksburg and Gillespie County to answer questions from visitors about what to do in the evenings.  The schedule can be found here: http://www.visitfredericksburgtx.com/events-categories/music-events/
