Crowd Favorites at Oktoberfest in Fredericksburg

Fredericksburg’s legendary German festival, Oktoberfest, returns Friday, October 4, through Sunday, October 6, 2019. During Oktoberfest we celebrate Fredericksburg’s German heritage with four stages of continuous oompah music, a great kids activity area, arts, crafts, shopping, 50 varieties of American, Texas and imported beers, Texas Wine Country selections, great food and fun all weekend long! Here are three crowd favorites (and can’t miss experiences) at Oktoberfest:

  • Oompah Music. Wear your dancing shoes and get ready for four stages of oompah music all weekend long. On Friday October 4, at 5:45 p.m., OkTubaFest will kick Oktoberfest festivities outside the main Oktoberfest gate as tuba and euphonium meisters rev up the crowd. Live music will continue all weekend long- get the full Oktoberfest music lineup here.
  • Chicken Dancing. What does a chicken have to do with Oktoberfest in Fredericksburg? Everything! The chicken dance is always a crowd favorite and will inspire dancing all weekend long. There are no wallflowers during the dance that turns everyone into clucking, flapping, tail-wiggling chickens. Show off your chicken dancing skills during the Hauptstrasse Chicken Dance that kicks off the festivities on Saturday, October 5. Sign up begins at 9:00 a.m. and at 9:30 a.m. hundreds of wanna-be chickens join in the fun. And it’s not unusual to see the six-foot, yellow-feathered variety leading the pack.
  • 42 Tournament. The highly anticipated 42 tournament will take place on Sunday, October 6. Domino players unite over German beer, sauerkraut and sausage and compete for prizes. If you like those little black dots on an ivory background too then join the fun! Registration begins at noon on Sunday, October 6, and the tournament begins promptly at 1:00 p.m.

Of course there’s plenty of polka music and other German treats too. Grab your dirndl. Grab your lederhosen. And get ready for some fun at the 39th Annual Oktoberfest!
