Fredericksburg and the Texas Hill Country are becoming known as an arts destination – a place for artists to live, work, perform and be inspired, as well as a place to view and purchase art.

First Friday Art Walk Fredericksburg – the first Friday of every month – is a perfect time to visit Fredericksburg. Ten art galleries throughout the historic district are open till 8:00 p.m. with new exhibits, artist receptions and demos.

Participating galleries:

Fredericksburg Artists School is situated on four acres at the historic Rocky Hill School complex on U.S. Highway 290 east of Fredericksburg. The building is an ideal painting studio with full north light exposure. The school is committed to providing a quality learning experience with teaching by nationally, and in some cases internationally, know professional artists. Students come from all over the U.S., as well as from Mexico, Canada, Germany, South Africa and other countries.

Tour the galleries and grounds of Eyfells and Eyfells, located at 9068 East U.S. Highway 290, between Fredericksburg and Stonewall. The vibrant paintings of famous personalities of the late Kristin Eyfells are celebrated, as well as the contemporary sculptures and abstract works of internationally acclaimed Johann Eyfells.

The Texas Mesquite Art Festival is held the second weekend of October each year and showcases furniture makers, artists and craftsmen who work in mesquite wood. So many beautiful items to add to your home!

You won’t want to miss the Hill Country Film Festival, held the last weekend of April in Fredericksburg and showcasing independent film from around the world.

The Fredericksburg Music Club, established in 1937, presents monthly classical concerts on Sunday afternoons during their season which runs from September to May. Check their schedule at www.FredericksburgMusicClub.com

The Fredericksburg Theater Company, in its 15th season, offers off-Broadway excellence in the charm of the Texas Hill Country. The company has gained acclaim nationally and standing ovations locally. Visit www.FredericksburgTheater.org for a schedule of upcoming performances.

Artistically inspired day trips in the Hill Country from Fredericksburg might include:

  • Kerrville — home to art galleries and the Texas Arts and Crafts Fair, each Memorial Day weekend
  • Johnson City – several art galleries are located in the downtown area and the Benini Studio and Sculpture Ranch is located just outside of town
  • Wimberley – home to the Wimberley Glass Works, galleries and Market Days on the first Saturday of each month
  • Boerne – art events, gallery openings and art shows are held throughout the year
  • Marble Falls — check out art galleries and the Sculpture on Main, an international collection of large-scale works that grows every year
