Professional Development Opportunity This Thursday
The Fredericksburg Convention and Visitor Bureau (FCVB), along with The Texas Hill Country Trail Region, will host Joe Veneto, The Opportunity Guy, in Fredericksburg on Thursday, October 26, for a one-day professional development workshop titled “Designing and Developing Unforgettable Experiences for Visitors.”  The workshop, which runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., will be held at The Lodge at Country Inn Cottages, and lunch will be provided. Texas White House Closing Temporarily for Preservation Work
Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park has announced that the Texas White House on the LBJ Ranch will be closed for public tours for at least four days next month due to a historic preservation project. Beginning on Monday, November 6, and continuing through at least November 9, 2017, the home will be closed so that work can be completed on the living room ceiling.

Tickets for the Christmas Wine Affair, which runs December 1-17, are now available for $70 per couple and $45 per individual. Texas Tech’s Plant and Soil Science Department Creates Local Food and Wine Concentration
Recently with approval from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Texas Tech University’s Department of Plant & Soil Science will establish a new undergraduate degree specialization in local food and wine production systems, the first of its kind at a university in the U.S. The program will be located at both the Hill Country University Center, the university’s Fredericksburg campus, and the main campus in Lubbock. Food & Wine Fest Volunteers Needed
The Food & Wine Fest is looking for volunteers to serve as Wine Pourers at the wineries’ booths on Saturday, October 28. Volunteers get in free and receive a glass and six tickets – which can purchase one full glass of wine, or two or three different tastings, depending on the wine. There are two shifts for wine pourers – 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please call Creative Marketing at 830-997-8515 if you would like to volunteer at this event where all proceeds benefit Marktplatz redevelopment and improvements. View “The Dust Bowl” exhibit at the Vereins Kirche, which includes photos taken in both the 1930s and the 1970s.   • Nightly Bat Emergence at Old Tunnel State Park

Every evening at dusk from May through October, watch up to 3 million Mexican free-tailed bats emerge from an abandoned railroad tunnel at Old Tunnel State Park. The bat migration has begun and the number of bats is declining, but the upper viewing area is open seven days a week and is free of charge. On Thursday through Sunday, be one of the first 70 visitors and get to watch from the lower viewing area for $5 per person.  Please call for current emergence time.   • Portraits & Stories of WWII Veterans Exhibit at the National Museum of the Pacific War

The Pioneer Museum’s weekly walking tour will begin at the Schandua House at 111 E.
