Extended Sunday Hours in March at the Visitor Information Center
Sundays in March, the Fredericksburg Visitor Information Center will be open extended hours from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to assist our visitors.  Regular hours on Saturdays are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Wildflower Exhibit at Lyndon B. Johnson State Park & Historic Site
In honor of Lady Bird Johnson’s legacy of beautification to this state and beyond, a wildflower exhibit panel is now on permanent display in the Visitor Center at the Lyndon B. Johnson State Park & Historic Site on U.S. Hwy 290 E., near Stonewall.  This full-color display includes scientific names and descriptions of the wildflowers growing at the park.  There is no cost to view this permanent display.

Cabernet Grill open this Monday (today)
The Cabernet Grill Wine Country Restaurant, normally closed on Mondays, will be serving this Monday, March 12 (today) beginning at 5:00 p.m.  Reservations may be made online.

Hill Top Café open this Monday (today) and next Monday
The Hill Top Café, normally closed on Mondays, will be serving on Monday, March 12 (today) and next Monday, March 19, from 5:00-9:00 p.m.

Fredericksburg Pie Company open daily this week
The Fredericksburg Pie Company will be open daily all this week for spring break.  Hours this week (Monday, March 12 – Sunday, March 18): Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., and Sunday, from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Open House at the Former Texas Rangers Foundation this Thursday
The public is invited to an open house at the new offices of the Former Texas Rangers Foundation in Fredericksburg this Thursday, March 15 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at 103 Industrial Loop, Suite 700.  Refreshments will be served.  For more details, call 830-990-1192.

Spring Thursday Night Shows open this week at Rockbox Theater
Rockbox Theater opens its Funtabulous Spring Thursday Nights promotion this Thursday, March 15 at 7:00 p.m. and will run through April 26. This is in addition to the group’s regular weekend schedule.  Two special ticket deals are available – either a $20 Group Ticket for groups of 20 or more (the 20/20 offer is not combinable with other offers) or a free Youth Ticket (for youths age 17 and younger) with the purchase of an adult ticket.  For information, call 830-997-7625.

Family Fun Day this Friday at the National Museum of the Pacific War
A special Family Fun Day geared to kids of all ages (particularly those ages 6-10) is planned at the National Museum of the Pacific War this Friday, March 16 beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the George H.W. Bush Gallery at 311 E. Austin St., in Fredericksburg.  This event focuses on kites, their history and use during wartime situations, and offers attendees a hands-on opportunity to build individual kites.  Cost to attend is $5 per child (no charge for younger siblings not making kites).  Pre-registration is suggested as supplies are limited.  Send RSVP to Moeller@nimitzfoundation.org.

Ticket pricing change at the National Museum of the Pacific War
Effective immediately, admission to the National Museum of the Pacific War is as follows:

WWII Veterans:  Free
Adults:  $14
Seniors 65+:  $12
Military with ID (active or retired):  $10
Children 6+ and Students with ID: $7
Children 5 and younger:  Free
Tour Groups (20 or more with confirmed reservations):  $8 each attendee

Pacific Combat Living History Program (Not included in regular museum admission)

Fredericksburg Trade Days this Friday – Sunday
Every third weekend of the month is Fredericksburg Trade Days on U.S. Hwy 290 E., across from Wildseed Farms.  Shop for antiques, collectibles and more at the 350+ vendor booths, visit the Biergarten and listen to live music.  There is no cost to attend; however, there is a $3 parking fee good for all three days.  This month’s event runs Friday, March 16 through Sunday, March 18.

Hilmy Cellars grand opening celebration Saturday through next Friday
Fredericksburg’s newest winery and tasting room, Hilmy Cellars, will host a grand opening starting this Saturday, March 17 from 10:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. at its new location at 12346 E. U.S. Hwy 290.  Grand opening festivities continue daily through March 23, and include wine tastings and an exhibit by artist Ruby Powell.  Check venue website for full details, or call 830-644-2482.

Book Signing this Saturday at Texas Vineyards & Beyond
Noted Texas author, Dr. Russ Kane, will debut and sign copies of his newest book, The Wineslinger Chronicles – Texas on the Vine, this Saturday, March 17 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Texas Vineyards & Beyond, 329 ½ E. Main St., in Fredericksburg.  Wine tasting available featuring vintages from Westcave Cellars, 1:00-6:00 p.m.

St. Patrick’s Day Sock Hop at the Hangar Hotel’s Pacific Showroom Saturday night
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a Sock Hop and show featuring Johnny Rogers, a renowned Buddy Holly tribute artist, this Saturday, March 17 at Hangar Hotel’s Pacific Showroom.  The show, Buddy & Beyond, is a tribute to the life and music of rock and roll legend, Buddy Holly.  Doors at this venue at 155 Airport Rd. in Fredericksburg open at 7:00 p.m. and tickets are $25.  Participation in a costume contest is available for guests in 1950s dress.

Becker Vineyards celebrating with Bluegrass, BBQ & Bluebonnets this weekend
The Wood Street Bloodhounds return for Becker Vineyards’ second annual Bluegrass, Bluebonnets & BBQ this Saturday, March 17 and Sunday, March 18 at the winery at 464 Becker Farms Rd., off U.S. Hwy 290 in Stonewall.  There’s no cost to attend.  Riley’s Custom Catering will be serving BBQ plates for $12.50 and BBQ sandwiches with chips for $7.50 from noon until 5:00 p.m. (or until sold out).

Billboards of Happiness Art Show at the Fredericksburg Art Gallery opens Saturday
New works by artist Mikki Senkarik will be featured at the new Billboards of Happiness show opening this Saturday, March 17 at the Fredericksburg Art Gallery at 314 E. Main Street, through March 31. And artist reception will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m.  One painting by the artist will be auctioned off; opening bid, $0.22.  For more details, call 830-990-2707.

Fredericksburg Music Club to host Alamo Metro Chorus – Sweet Adelines in Concert this Sunday
The Alamo Metro Chorus – Sweet Adelines will be performing at a concert hosted by the Fredericksburg Music Club this Sunday, March 18 at 3:00 p.m. at the Fredericksburg United Methodist Church at 1800 N. Llano St.  Admission is by donation.

Fredericksburg Herb Farm featured in Texas Highways and Texas Journey
Also in April’s Texas Highways is a nice spread on the Fredericksburg Herb Farm written by a journalist who participated in a past Geiger and Associates Public Relations press trip to Fredericksburg and Gillespie County on behalf of the Fredericksburg Convention and Visitor Bureau.  The Fredericksburg Herb Farm was also covered by another Geiger journalist in the March/April issue of AAA Texas Journey.

Area Artists featured in AmericanStyle
Several area artists who have used the beauty of wildflowers as their muse received coverage by yet another Geiger journalist in this article titled, Palette: Of Bluebonnets and Brushes , that appeared in the Spring 2012 issue of AmericanStyle Magazine.

Food Handler’s Course next Tuesday, March 20
A food handler’s course accredited by the Texas Department of State Health Services is being offered by the Texas AgriLife Extension Service at its offices at 95 Frederick Road in Fredericksburg next Tuesday, March 20 from 2:00-4:00 p.m.  The two-hour course is a basic overview of food safety practices that are necessary to ensure that safe food is served at eating establishments.  This course is recommended for all food service employees.  Cost is $20 per person and must be paid in full before the course begins.  An online course is also available in English and Spanish.  For details and to register, call 830-997-3452.
