Joe Gish Museum Collection Auction this Saturday
The 45-year museum western collection of the late Joe Gish will be sold during a public auction this Saturday, February 11, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Joe Gish Museum at 502 N. Milam St., in Fredericksburg.  An open house preview will be available this Friday at the museum from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Saturday at 8:00 a.m. until sale start at 10:00 a.m.  This auction is presented by A&S Action Company of Waco.

FAL&HA General Membership meeting to be held this Wednesday
The first 2012 General Membership meeting of the Fredericksburg Area Lodging and Hospitality Association (FAL&HA) will be held this Wednesday, February 8 at 5:30 p.m. at August E’s, 203 E. San Antonio St. in Fredericksburg.  Those interested in joining this organization are encouraged to attend to learn more.

Food Handler’s Course set for Thursday
A food handler’s course accredited by the Texas Department of State Health Services is being offered by the Texas AgriLife Extension Service at the Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, 109 E. San Antonio Street in Fredericksburg this Thursday, February 9 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.   The two-hour course is a basic overview of food safety practices that are necessary to ensure that safe food is served at eating establishments.  This course is recommended for all food service employees.  Cost is $20 per person and must be paid in full before the course begins.  For details and to register, call 830-997-3452. Sister City Quilt now hangs in Fredericksburg Visitor Information Center
A handmade quilt, made cooperatively by members of Fredericksburg’s Vereins Quilt Guild (Fat Quarter Bee) and the Montabaur Patchwork Quilters in the Fredericksburg sister city of Montabaur, Germany now hangs in the Fredericksburg Visitor Information Center (VIC) at 302 East Austin St.  Blocks used in the quilt were initially created in Germany and then mailed to Fredericksburg where they were pieced together by Guild members to complete the quilt.  The quilt was then presented in May of 2006 to the City of Fredericksburg during the city’s 160th Anniversary celebration and now hangs in the VIC for all to enjoy.

10-Day Hill Country Wine Lovers Trail starts Friday
The self-guided Hill Country Wine Lovers trail starts this Friday, February 10 and runs for 10 days through February 19. Sample chocolates and wine at 33 participating wineries.  The $35 ticket ($60 per couple) includes 1-3 complimentary tastes at each winery, 15% off discounts on three-bottle purchases, and chocolates.  Space limited.  For details, visit www.texaswinetrail.com.

Cave Creek and Rheingold Historic Schools Open House this Saturday
Gillespie County Historic Schools welcomes visitors to open houses at the Cave Creek School at 470 Cave Creek Rd. and the Rheingold School at 334 Rheingold School Rd. this Saturday, February 11 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Both schools are located off RR 1631. Meet former students and learn what school life was like back when these preserved historic schools were open in the late 1800s and early 1900s.  There’s no admission and donations are welcome.  Pick up a free map of the school trail at the Fredericksburg Visitor Information Center at 302 E. Austin St.

Job opportunity: Part-time Travel Counselor needed at Fredericksburg Visitor Information Center – applications accepted through February 13, 2012.
The Fredericksburg Convention and Visitor Bureau is accepting applications for a Part-time Travel Counselor to work rotating weekends and holidays in its Visitor Information Center (VIC).  Hours on Saturdays are 8:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. and on Sundays are 10:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.  Rotating work schedule allows some flexibility for part-time employees to choose which weekends and holidays they work (the VIC is closed on New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day).
