Hill Country Wine and Music Festival – Thursday through Saturday
There will be great music, wine and food pairings at the Hill Country Wine and Music Festival kicking off this week with three distinct events – the Texas Vintners Dinner & Reception on Thursday, April 26 beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Cabernet Grill Wine Country Restaurant at 2805 U.S. Hwy 16 S. – cost: $100; the Texas Wine Tasting & Food Pairing with Book Signing on Friday, April 27 at 6:00 p.m. at the Ruff Haus at 205 N. Elk and featuring tapas-style dishes and book signings by Dr. Russell Kane and Chef Terry Thompson-Anderson – cost:  $100; and the festival’s main event on Saturday, April 28 running 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Wildseed Farms on U.S. Hwy 290 E. featuring wine, a full day of live musical performances, cooking demonstrations and plenty of food samples – cost:  $20.  Proceeds in part go to benefit the upcoming Texas Center for Wine and Culinary Arts.

Hill Country Film Festival runs Thursday through Sunday
Fredericksburg will welcome movie producers, writers, actors, directors, editors and promoters who are participating in the third annual Hill Country Film Festival this week. The event will be held at the Stagecoach Theater at 2254 S. U.S. Hwy 87 and at various venues around Fredericksburg, Thursday, April 26 through Sunday, April 29.  This festival, devoted to independent film, includes film viewings, Q&A sessions, parties, and speaking engagements (check website for full schedule of events).  Cost to participate is $10 for individual screening tickets; $40 for an all-day pass; and $100 for an all-access badge.
Also, don’t miss this Thursday’s free outdoor screening with a block of family-friendly films at the Marktplatz on W. Main – starts 8:00 p.m.!

Wings Over the Hills Nature Festival starts Friday and runs through Sunday
Join fellow birders and nature enthusiasts in the Texas Hill Country for the second annual Wings Over the Hills Nature Festival, Friday, April 27 through Sunday, April 29. Bring the whole family for educational and entertaining activities focusing on the unique wildlife features of the Texas Hill Country.  On the program are many educational presentations by noted nature specialists, an activity program just for kids, guided field trips on the park’s nature trail and motor coach tours of the area.

4.0 Cellars now open
4.0 Cellars has opened at 10354 E. U.S. Hwy 290 bringing the number of wineries and winery-owned tasting rooms in the Fredericksburg area to 14.  Open daily, 4.0 Cellars sells wines from McPherson Cellars, Lost Oak Winery and Brennan Vineyards and offers wine tastings for $10 for six samples (price includes a complimentary wine glass).  For more information, call 830-997-7470.

Texas State Black Powder Shootout & Resurrection VI is Friday through Sunday
Watch a cowboy-style shooting competition open to beginners and experienced shooters during the Texas State Black Powder Shootout & Resurrection VI this Friday, April 27 through Sunday, April 29 at the Tin Star Ranch at 456 Tin Star Road, off RR 965.  Times for the competition are from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., and there’s no cost to participate or to just watch all the action.  Concessions will be available.  A BBQ cook-off is also planned for Friday and Saturday.  For more details, call 830-685-3464.

Pacific War Combat Zone Re-enactments this Saturday and Sunday in time for National Museum of the Pacific War’s Gillespie County Appreciation Weekend
Residents of Gillespie County will receive $1 off admission to the National Museum of the Pacific War this Saturday, April 28 and Sunday, April 29 as part of the museum’s Gillespie County Appreciation Weekend.  This “thank you” for residents is also good toward $1 off admission to the Pacific War Combat Zone Re-enactments planned for 10:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

Heritage Trail Spring Ride from Fredericksburg to New Braunfels heads out on Saturday
The Heritage Trail Ride Association of New Braunfels, Inc.’s five-day trail ride from the Gillespie County Fairgrounds to New Braunfels starts this Friday, April 27 at 8:00 a.m. with overnight stops in Luckenbach, Sisterdale, Kendalia, and Spring Branch.  This trail ride commemorates the historic trail used by early travelers.  For information, call 830-629-1925.

Wildflower 5K & 10K Run/Walk/Children’s Fun Run is Saturday
Hill Country Memorial Hospital’s annual Wildflower 5K & 10K Run/Walk/Children’s Fun Run benefitting the Fredericksburg Academic Boosters is this Saturday, April 28 beginning at 8:30 a.m. from the Marktplatz on Main Street.  Children’s Fun Run begins at 9:30 a.m.  Cost on day of the run/walk to participate is $25 for adults (preregister online for discount) and $1 for kids.  For more information, call 830-997-1355.

Wounded Warriors participating in Wildflower Run
Hurt, yet still strong – recovering solders undergoing physical therapy at Brooke Army Medical Center will be in Fredericksburg this weekend to participate in the Wildflower 5K & 10K Run/Walk/Children’s Fun Run on Saturday, April 28.  Their expenses will be covered as part of the Fredericksburg Salutes Our Wounded Warriors efforts.  Rockbox Theater and Paula Dean have donated tickets to watch a performance (at Rockbox Theater) and the NEBO Ministry (Sharon Massey/United Methodist Church) is providing lodging.  Support your troops – come out to the event to cheer for these men and women and their families!

Scholarship Fest in support of local youth is this Saturday
Gillespie County Fairgrounds on U.S. Hwy 16 S. will be the site for this year’s 16th Annual Scholarship Fest in support of Gillespie County youth.  Hear local DJ and pick up a plate of food served ‘tailgate style’ by local cooking teams – $20.  For more details, call 830-997-2359.

Sales and Services Coordinator position available at the Fredericksburg Convention and Visitor Bureau – applications accepted through May 11
