Labor Day Weekend In Fredericksburg Texas AUG 06 2018

Labor Day Weekend In Fredericksburg Texas

Labor Day Weekend – it’s the last official getaway weekend of summer and the perfect time to take advantage of all that the Texas Hill Country has to offer – shopping, wineries, live music, museums and more.

Friday, August 31

Head to Fredericksburg for shopping in Main Street boutiques, while enjoying a pint of beer or glass of wine as you stroll. Next, grab a bite to eat before watching live rodeo action at the 54th Annual Harper Frontier Days Celebration, attending the Reckless Kelly concert at The Backyard at Fritztown or retiring to your cozy accommodations.

Saturday, September 1

Start the day with a hot cup of Joe and a bite to eat at any local favorite – Java Ranch, Old German Bakery, Fredericksburg Pie CompanyHilda’s and more.

Browse over 145 handmade quilts at the 10th Biennial Vereins Quilt Guild Show at the Fredericksburg United Methodist Church.

Then go on an adventure with a quick drive to Harper, Texas – where you’ll find yourself at the second day of the 54th Annual Harper Frontier Days Celebration with a parade, rodeo, live music, BBQ and true small-town-Texas fun.

On your way back into town, make a stop at Chisholm Trail Winery for their annual grape stomp – think wood-fired pizzas, Texas wine and purple feet!

Or stay in town and experience the newly renovated Pacific Combat Zone and learn firsthand what it was like during WWII. The WWII Pacific Combat Program at the National Museum of the Pacific War runs twice a day on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 1 and 2. Grab some tickets and see history come to life.

Catch “Tea For Three: Lady Bird, Pat and Betty” at the Fredericksburg Theater Company’s Steve W. Shepherd Theater on Saturday and Sunday, September 1 and 2. Emmy Award-winning actress Elaine Bromka takes on the personae of Lady Bird Johnson, Pat Nixon and Betty Ford in this unforgettable play about the personal cost of the hardest unpaid job in the world

Saturday evening entertainment options are abundant – mingle with the locals at the nearly “world-famous” Doss Fish Fry which kicks off at 4:30 p.m. in Doss, Texas, or spend the evening dancing the night away at the USO-Style Hangar Dance at the Hangar Hotel. For a quieter evening activity, take an Art and Vino Painting Class.

Sunday, September 2

The grape stomps continue at Becker Vineyards with the Annual “Lucy and the Italian Woman” Costume Contest, as do wine tasting and wine tour opportunities on Fredericksburg Wine Road 290 and beyond. Even a Sunday stroll along Main Street’s Urban Wine Trail is sure to please!

Or relax under the shade of the old oak trees out at Luckenbach Texas with a cold one, live music and the crowing roosters!

Monday, September 4

Shopping opportunities continue along Main Street (and beyond), wineries are open to explore and museums open for all-day fun on a Monday.
