Horseracing at the Gillespie Country Fairgrounds – right here in Fredericksburg Texas – is a favorite Hill Country summer activity.
Horse racing has been taking place in Gillespie County for more than a century. And for the past two decades, the Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association has been offering pari-mutuel betting.
The track is a Class 3 track and the association offers live quarter horse and thoroughbred races during the summer.
There are four live racing weekends each year: two in July and two more in August. The dates in July are the first and third weekends and the two in August are on the second and fourth weekends.

The last race weekend in August always takes place with the Gillespie County Fair, which is the oldest, continuous county fair in Texas. And, this year, the fair is celebrating its 129th anniversary on August 24-27, 2017.
Each race day, gates open at 11:00 a.m., post time is 1:00 p.m., and races run until approximately 6:00 p.m.
The Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association is a nonprofit organization that raises scholarship money for local youth. Almost all of the work for the races is done by volunteers.
