What’s New: Tubby’s Icehouse JUN 30 2015
Fredericksburg, which has become the gastronomic hub of the Texas Hill Country, now has yet another eatery to dazzle and delight both locals and visitors. In a city where, within just a few blocks, most of them within walking distance of each other, one can find authentic Tex-Mex, Italian, awesome burgers, Upscale American, Thai food, great steaks, German and northern European cuisine, hand-tossed pizzas, plus wine bites, you can now relish the sensuous flavors of Caribbean street foods. After long anticipation among locals, Tubby’s Icehouse opened in late June. Tubby’s is the creation of the dynamic duo of John Washburne and Chef Adam Yoho, who brought authentic German and northern European foods to town at the popular Otto’s German Bistro, which happens to be right next door.
The new eatery spotlights the talents of Chef Adam with its varied menu of Caribbean-inspired snacks like luscious fried codfish fritters served with a delightfully spicy remoulade, Jamaican beef patties in a nice, crisp pastry served with a sensational green sauce, sticky wings with a citrusy-soy, chili glaze, and loaded fries, either lechon (pork), or chickpea curry served with slaw, cilantro, queso fresca, and island sauce, which is smack yo’ mama-delicious. Full meal plates include a pulled pork sandwich on Cuban bread, jerk chicken with rice, beans, and slaw, and the sensational Tubby’s Burger, plus more. You have your choice of purchasing four optional sauces, all spicy and packed with robust island flavor. There are sides (including fried plantains), and some great traditional Caribbean sweets to round out your culinary adventure.
Tubby’s is an outdoor dining facility, taking advantage of our great Hill Country sunshine. Perfect place to order a variety of the unique menu offerings and gather at one of the colorful picnic-style tables with a group of friends or family. Choose a beverage from a nice selection of beers and wines, agua frescas, and even house-made horchata, and you’re all set for a little feast for the senses.
If you’re in a sporting mood, there’s bocce ball and a playscape. Stay as long as you wish and enjoy the Fredericksburg spirit!
You can order on-line and pick up your goodies at the take-out window. Just visit the website to place your order. Tubby’s is open seven days a week – Sunday-Thursday from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm; Friday and Saturday from 11:00 am to midnight. Tubby’s Icehouse, 315 East Austin, Fredericksburg, Texas.
