Guided Rides in Fredericksburg and the Hill Country SEP 02 2014
Fredericksburg is a cyclists’ heaven – great weather, beautiful routes, and delicious options to “carb up.” Want an insider view on our cycling oasis? The Fredericksburg cycling community, including Hill Country Bicycle Works, Jack and Adam’s Bicycles of Fredericksburg and the Wellness Center all host regular rides that are open to the public.
Our oldest cycling shop, Hill Country Bicycle Works, hosts rides year-round. Their most consistent rides are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m. Tuesday is a faster paced ride for the more experienced cyclists, while Thursday is no-drop and better for beginners or those who just want to take it a little easier.
And if you’re looking for an outdoor adventure to add to your girls’ trip to Fredericksburg, make plans to join the Hill Country Bicycle Works’ “girls ride” on Friday mornings. Take note, the “girls ride” might not be as “girly” as you think – it’s fast paced, and if you can’t keep up, you will get left behind.
Interested in Mountain Biking? Hill Country Bicycle Works also organizes a mountain bike ride on Wednesday nights at Flat Rock Ranch in nearby Comfort, Texas. The ride typically starts off between 6:30 and 6:45 p.m. and is followed by a few cold beers and grilled sausage.
Jack and Adam’s Bicycles of Fredericksburg may be the “new kids on the block” in the Hill Country cycling world, but they too lead a weekly ride for cyclists. Jack and Adam’s weekly ride rolls out each Saturday at 8 a.m. Cyclists are led along a two hour “no drop” ride where they can push it to the limit or take it easy, as no rider will be left behind. Additional group rides will be added to the Jack and Adam’s Bicycles of Fredericksburg event lineup soon.
Texas Bike Tours, based out of Austin and partnered with Jack and Adam’s, allows you to create your own completely personalized cycling tour of the Texas Hill Country. Each tour includes rental bikes picked just for you by the TXBT crew, SAG Wagon road support, homemade goodies from the TXBT chef and a photographer to capture your experiences.
Rides are hosted by the Wellness Center as well. They offer rides as part of their triathlon training on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. every week. In order to participate in their rides, you need to pay a guest fee of $10 for the day or be a member of the Wellness Center. Their routes vary but always begin at the Wellness Center and are “no drop.”
