The Spring Festival Season Brings Wildflowers, Wine, Music, Winged Creatures and Independent Films MAR 13 2013
Spring is upon us, and milder temperatures across Texas make quick road trips appealing. In Fredericksburg, especially, the events calendar is packed with plenty of things to do and see.
Three of these events are spring festivals – the Hill Country Wine and Music Festival, the nature-inspired Wings Over the Hills Nature Festival and the Hill Country Film Festival.
The Hill Country Wine and Music Festival is a true celebration of Texas—its wine, music and cuisine. The event kicks off Friday, April 26 at the National Museum of the Pacific War’s Ruff Haus for a Texas wine tasting and food pairing evening, as well as a book signing by Texas authors Dr. Russell Kane and Chef Terry Thompson. The event continues amidst the wildflowers at Wildseed Farms on Saturday, April 27. Texas wine will be flowing and a variety of musical genres will keep you entertained.
The same weekend, the Wings Over the Hills Nature Festival offers the whole family educational and entertainment activities focused on the unique wildlife features of the Texas Hill Country, including birds, butterflies, dragonflies and bats. Headquartered from the Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park in Fredericksburg and running April 26-28, the event offers something for everyone—from the curious child to the seasoned birder. Learn more about nature up-close and celebrate natural flight!
The following weekend, the Hill Country Film Festival includes three days of short- and feature-length indie films, filmmaker Q&A, panel discussions and a free, family-friendly outdoor screening. The event kicks off Thursday, May 2 at the Marktplatz and continues Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4 at the Fredericksburg Theater Company’s Steve W. Shepherd Theater in Fredericksburg. Social events and parties are all part of this event, which brings Hollywood to the Texas Hill Country.
Mark your calendars now and make plans to enjoy spring in Fredericksburg – the Texas Hill Country.
