Crowd Favorites at Oktoberfest in Fredericksburg

What does a chicken have to do with Oktoberfest? Everything!

The Chicken Dance is always a crowd pleaser at Oktoberfest. There are no wall flowers during the dance that turns everyone into clucking, flapping and tail-wiggling chickens.

One of the favorite activities during Oktoberfest in Fredericksburg is the Chicken Dance on Main Street that kicks off the festivities on Saturday morning. Hundreds of wanna-be chickens join the fun. And it’s not unusual to see the six-foot, yellow-feathered variety leading the pack.

Another crowd favorite is the Tuba Jam. On Friday evening, right outside the main gate, tuba and euphonium meisters rev up the crowd during OkTubaFest. There’s no better way to get your oompah on before you walk through the gates at opening time.

Wrapping up Oktoberfest activities is the 42 tournament on Sunday. Domino players reunite over German beer, sauerkraut and sausage and compete for prizes. Do you like those little black dots on an ivory background too? Join the fun!

Of course there’s plenty of polka music and other German treats too. Grab your dirndl. Grab your lederhosen. And get ready for some fun.
