No Labor — Just Stomping, Dancing, Quilting and Rodeo! AUG 20 2012

No Labor — Just Stomping, Dancing, Quilting and Rodeo!

Labor Day weekend in Fredericksburg, in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, promises fun for the whole family!

For quilting enthusiasts, the Biennial Quilt Show sponsored by the Vereins Quilt Guild of Fredericksburg will be the place to be. Nearly 125 quilts, works of art in their own way, will be on display at the Gillespie County Farm Bureau building Friday through Sunday of Labor Day weekend.

The National Museum of the Pacific war will present its Pacific Combat Living History Program on Saturday, September 1 and Sunday, September 2, at 10:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.   Great history lessons about World War II in the Pacific with a tank, flame thrower and more.   “The boys” of whatever age tend to like this one.

And on Saturday evening, carry on the World War II theme by attending the USO-Style Dance in the Pacific Showroom at the Hangar Hotel, starting with swing dance lessons at 7:00 p.m.  Music is by Bill Smallwood and The Lonestar Swing Orchestra. This is really fun and part of the proceeds benefit the USO program at Ft. Hood, outside of Killeen, Texas. Have fun and do good!

The grape harvest is on in Texas, and Becker Vineyards stages its 16th annual Grape Stomp on Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day weekend, while Chisholm Trail Winery will be “stomping” on Saturday only.

And music is the name of the game at Luckenbach Texas — Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday! Some of the bands playing include Jason Boland & The Stragglers and Micky & The Motorcars.

Want to rodeo? Check out the 48th annual Frontier Day and Rodeo in Harper at the community park, about 20 minutes west of Fredericksburg on Highway 290, on Saturday, September 1. The Lester Meier Rodeo Company, headquartered in Fredericksburg, Texas, will produce the rodeo excitement.

Join us in Fredericksburg and Gillespie County for a weekend filled with fun as we celebrate Labor Day — the final fling of the summer season!
