Formula 1 Coming to Austin This Fall

The excitement of Formula 1 racing is coming to Austin, Texas this fall on the weekend of November 16-18, 2012.

Formula 1 racing occurs in 20 countries around the world and is big business in those destinations.  The main website is www.formula1.com. The website for Formula 1 United States Grand Prix (the official name of the Austin race) is www.circuitoftheamericas.com.

On Friday and Saturday, November 16 and 17 are practice and qualifying runs. The main race of 56 laps is on Sunday, November 18, at 1:00 p.m. at the Circuit of the Americas track which in under construction in southeast Austin.

For racing fans coming to Austin from around the U.S. and, indeed, the world, Fredericksburg, located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, makes a great pre- or post-race destination.

Located just an hour and a half by auto from downtown Austin, Fredericksburg offers great shopping along historic Main Street; nationally and internationally significant attractions like the National Museum of the Pacific War and the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park; art galleries featuring the works of regional, national and internationally acclaimed artists; Enchanted Rock, one of the premier rock-climbing venues in the southwestern part of the United States; Texas honky-tonks for two stepping;  and over a dozen wineries and tasting rooms along Wine Road 290 showcasing Texas wine.
