Valentine’s Day To-Do List

Cupid’s assistants at the Fredericksburg Convention and Visitor Bureau have compiled this step-by-step list to help you plan a romantic getaway to Fredericksburg and Gillespie County that you and your sweetheart will remember for years to come! Click here for specific Valentine’s Day promotions and events.

STEP ONE: Book Your Accommodations

Fredericksburg and Gillespie County boast a wide array of accommodations – from all-suite hotels to traditional B&Bs to cottages to contemporary lofts. Stay right on Main Street in the heart of the shopping and entertainment district or out in the country on a ranch. You choose the location that fits your romantic getaway!

Insider Tips: If you can travel during the week, some accommodations offer savings on Sunday through Thursday stays. Also book early, as many accommodations fill quickly — especially the weekends near Valentine’s Day.

STEP TWO: Order Flowers, Pastries or Candy

Have flowers, pastries or candy waiting in your B&B or hotel room for your significant other. The element of surprise is sure to please! All B&B reservation services and some hotels offer romance packages for one inclusive price, and many individual B&B owners will take care of the details for you. Or order directly.

Insider Tip: For 26 years, Chocolat, 251 West Main, has created fabulous liqueur-filled chocolates using European methods. For 30 years, Fredericksburg Fudge has created to-die-for fudge and other candies right here in the heart of the Texas Hill Country.

STEP THREE: Make Reservations for Dinner for Two

Dining in Fredericksburg and the area can range from white linen tablecloths to Biergarten casual. Choose from authentic German fare to local Hill Country game to Tex-Mex favorites to sophisticated big city flavors. You choose the cuisine and the style.

Insider Tip: Good news for the guys — most Fredericksburg area restaurants are casual. Suits and ties are fairly rare around these parts!

STEP FOUR: Book a Wine Tour

The Texas Hill Country is becoming known as Texas Wine Country, and Fredericksburg sits right in the center of this rapidly growing wine region. Half-day and full-day tours are available. Leave the driving to someone else so you and your sweetheart can enjoy the tour.

Insider Tip: This year’s Wine Lover’s Trail is happening for 10 consecutive days, whereas in previous years it only ran on weekends. Enjoy smaller crowds at the wineries on weekdays, and take advantage of midweek lodging specials too!

STEP FIVE: Buy Tickets or Plan for an Evening of Live Entertainment

If you are coming to Fredericksburg for the weekend, several options exist for live entertainment. Rockbox Theater presents a live musical variety show each weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Fredericksburg Theater Company will present “Godspell” on weekends from February 17 – March 4. Luckenbach Texas has live Texas pickers each day of the week. Some other venues with a regular schedule of live entertainment each weekend include The Auslander Biergarten and Restaurant, Crossroads Saloon and Steakhouse, Hondo’s on Main, Silver Creek Beer Garden & Grille and nearby Albert, Texas. Plus, several wineries offer live entertainment on Saturday afternoons.

Insider Tip: Rockbox Theater was rated as one of the top attractions in Texas on tripadvisor.com, and there are always a couple of songs great for sweethearts in the audience. The Saturday matinee at 4:30 p.m. is popular before dining.
