New Fasching Event Revives Tradition JAN 06 2012

An event revival is on the horizon — Fasching Ball 2012. Sponsored by the Fredericksburg Area Lodging & Hospitality Association and starting with the ball on Saturday, February 18, at 7:00 p.m. at the Hangar Hotel & Conference Center this year, plans call for adding other events to the weekend in future years such as a possible parade and Marktplatz festival.
Inspired by Germany’s “go a little crazy” pre-Lenten Karneval season, in the late 1800’s the Casino Club of Fredericksburg sponsored masquerade balls in the Nimitz Ballroom to give its members one last fling before Lent began. This year’s Fasching Ball will feature live music, Karneval-style entertainment, ice sculptures, vodka and whiskey bars and delicious cuisine. Costumes are encouraged or cocktail attire with mask.
Reserved tables for eight are $2,800, with individual tickets at $150 each. A portion of the proceeds will benefit The Hill Country Community Needs Council and part will provide funding for future Fasching events. Tickets are on sale now at August E’s, located at 203 East San Antonio Street, during normal restaurant hours or contact Joe Cloud at (830)998-1981 to purchase tables or individual tickets. Or visit www.karnevalfasching.com for more information.
Mark your calendar, make your hotel reservations and be a part of reviving the Fasching season in Fredericksburg and the Texas Hill Country.
