Amazing Nature Trail JUN 23 2011
One of the relatively unknown treasures of Fredericksburg is the Live Oak Wilderness Trail at Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park, which is located about three miles south of Main Street on Highway 16. Following the 6,000 feet of hiking trials will lead you into eleven diverse habitats, where you might encounter some of the nearly 25 different dragonflies that have been spotted with names such as the Eastern Ringtail, the Blue Dasher or the Neon Skimmer! Or what about seasonal wildflowers? An amazing 263 species have been identified over the course of a year. And over 160 species of birds have been sighted along the trail.
Really important note — the handicapped-accessible trail provides visitors in wheelchairs the first trail of its kind in the state.
Take the kids for a morning walk — it is fun, educational and FREE!
